PRIVACY POLICY

Last updated: April 28, 2026

1. Who We Are

Deaf Pickleball Ratings ("DPR") is operated by PickleUnlimited. This policy covers deafpickleballratings.com and dpratings.com. It also applies to data shared with other PickleUnlimited products (Deaf Pickleball Brackets, Deaf Pickleball League) through the shared account system.

2. What We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information:

Account information

Name, email address, password (hashed). Provided at signup.

Profile information

City, state, country, date of birth, gender, phone number, DUPR ID. Provided optionally.

Match data

Match scores, opponents, dates, categories, event names. Sourced in this order of preference: (1) submitted directly by players, (2) submitted by tournament directors, (3) gathered and verified by DPR from available sources when neither of the above is provided.

Ratings

Calculated from match data. Displayed publicly on your profile and leaderboards.

Emergency contact

Name and phone number. Stored in a separate privacy-scoped table, accessible only to you and event staff.

Usage data

Error reports (via Sentry, with PII scrubbing). No cookies, no third-party trackers.

3. How We Use Your Data

  • Calculate and display your pickleball ratings
  • Display your profile on public leaderboards and player pages
  • Enable tournament registration and partner matching (via DPB)
  • Send notifications about rating changes and events (if opted in)
  • Share match results with DUPR (with your consent, via the PickleUnlimited data pipeline)
  • Improve the service (anonymized usage patterns, error monitoring)

4. What We Share

Public by default

Name, ratings, match history, and reliability tier are publicly visible on your profile and leaderboards. This is core to the rating system's transparency.

Partner API

Approved partners may access player ratings via our API. Every API key is manually vetted — no self-service access.

DUPR

Match results may be submitted to DUPR for dual-rating. Only DUPR-compatible categories (Singles, Doubles) are shared.

We do NOT sell your data

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to advertisers or data brokers. Ever.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored in a secured data center with encryption at rest and in transit. Access to administrative systems requires multi-factor authentication. All connections use HTTPS/TLS.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Access — request a copy of all data we hold about you
  • Correct — update or fix inaccurate information
  • Export — receive your data in a portable format
  • Object — opt out of non-essential data processing
  • Leave DPR — if you want to leave the rating system, you may choose one of the following two paths (you cannot have both — they are different intensities of the same decision):
    • Close account (soft exit) — deactivate your profile and remove personal details (email, phone, address). Your name remains attached to your match historyso other players' ratings stay accurate. You no longer log in, but your historical record stays visible. See Section 7.
    • Anonymize (hard exit)— everything in “Close account”, AND your name is replaced with “Removed Player” everywhere it appears in DPR. You disappear from leaderboards and search. On each affected match, DPR surfaces the verification source URL so anyone can confirm the match was real, independent of DPR. See Section 7.

Pick the option that matches your intent. If you choose Close accountand later decide you want full anonymization, contact us again and we'll upgrade. The reverse is not possible — once anonymized, the original name is removed from the public record (the audit trail is retained internally for legitimate-error reversal only).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us. We will respond within 30 days.

7. Data Retention

Pickleball ratings are a community resource. Because your match results affect the ratings of every player you competed against, account and match data cannot be fully deleted on request. This is consistent with how other rating systems (such as DUPR and USA Pickleball) handle player data.

Match data — always retained:

  • Match results are shared community data — removing one player's matches would distort ratings for every opponent and partner. Match data is retained permanently regardless of which exit option you choose below.

Two exit options (choose one — they are mutually exclusive):

Option 1 — Close account (soft exit)

  • Account login: closed — you can no longer sign in.
  • Personal details: email, phone, address, emergency contact, bio, photo are removed.
  • Your name: remains attached to your match history. You stay visible on leaderboards and in search results. This keeps the public record straightforward and other players' verification chains intact.

Option 2 — Anonymize (hard exit)

  • Account login: closed.
  • Personal details: removed (same as Option 1).
  • Your name: replaced with “Removed Player” everywhere it appears in DPR (past matches, leaderboards, search).
  • Verification URL: on each match where your name was replaced, DPR surfaces the verification source URL (the public tournament bracket DPR validated that match against). This means anyone can confirm the match was real by checking the tournament's own record, independent of DPR. When player names are visible, the names themselves are the proof; once a name is removed, the URL becomes the proof — so it appears only on matches where it's needed.
  • Outside DPR's control: the underlying tournament records (e.g. on pickleballtournaments.com, Scoreholio public pages, USADSF results) are not ours — we cannot remove your name there.

Pick one based on your intent.“Close account” is reversible by contacting us — we can reactivate. “Anonymize” is functionally permanent for the public record (the original name is removed; the audit trail is retained internally for legitimate-error reversal only). You may upgrade from Close → Anonymize later, but you cannot downgrade.

Contact us about a profile

For anonymization requests, name corrections, wrong matches, or duplicate profiles, use the profile-concerns form. DPR admin reviews each request manually.

8. Cookies and Tracking

DPR uses essential cookies for authentication only. We do not use advertising cookies, third-party trackers, or analytics cookies. Error monitoring does not collect personally identifiable information.

9. All Ages

DPR is a general-audience rating system open to players of all ages, consistent with other pickleball rating and sanctioning bodies (DUPR, PPA, USA Pickleball). For all players, only name and age category (e.g., "14-34", "35-49") are displayed publicly — date of birth is never shown. Tournament registration for players under 18 requires guardian consent. For players under 13, parental consent is required to create an account, consistent with COPPA requirements.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes via email. Continued use after changes constitutes acceptance.
